# About FontsLike

FontsLike indexes open fonts with licence facts, per-use permission terms, and in-browser previews. Every page has a Markdown copy for language models, and font data is available as JSON.

## Data Sources & Pipeline

Font records, metadata, and licence clauses come from public sources:

- **Google Fonts Metadata**: Family names, designers, categories, font styles, and popularity rankings imported from Google Fonts metadata (read 2026-10-21).
- **Fontsource Distribution API**: Package identifiers, def_subset values, and CDN URL templates for WOFF2 delivery imported via the Fontsource API (read 2026-10-21).
- **Google Fonts Tag Database**: Classification tags (such as Pixel, Techno, Display) imported from the google/fonts tags dataset (read 2026-10-21).
- **Licence Texts**: Permission clauses and quotes are copied from each licence's upstream source (SIL Open Font License 1.1, Apache License 2.0, Ubuntu Font Licence 1.0, Creative Commons Zero 1.0, and The Unlicense, read 2026-10-21).

## Scope & Legal Boundary

FontsLike only redistributes font files whose licences explicitly grant free distribution (OFL-1.1, Apache-2.0, UFL-1.0, CC0-1.0, and Unlicense). All font files are delivered via public CDN infrastructure from Fontsource. FontsLike does not host or distribute proprietary, commercial, or personal-use-only font archives.
