# Ubuntu Font Licence 1.0: what you can do with these fonts

Use and share it, even for a fee, with its licence; modified versions follow strict renaming rules.

## Usage Permissions

### COMMERCIAL — ALLOWED
- **Clause**: Preamble
- **Quote**: "The requirement for fonts to remain under this licence does not require any document created using the fonts or their derivatives to be published under this licence, as long as the primary purpose of the document is not to be a vehicle for the distribution of the fonts."
- **Plain-English note**: Your work is yours, as long as it is not a way to hand out the font.

### LOGO — ALLOWED
- **Clause**: Permission & Conditions
- **Quote**: "This licence does not grant any rights under trademark law and all such rights are reserved."
- **Plain-English note**: That is about the font's own names; a logo you set in it is not restricted.

### WEB — CONDITIONS
- **Clause**: Permission & Conditions 1
- **Quote**: "Each copy of the Font Software must contain the above copyright notice and this licence."
- **Plain-English note**: The notice and licence go with every copy of the file.

### APP — CONDITIONS
- **Clause**: Permission & Conditions 1
- **Quote**: "Each copy of the Font Software must contain the above copyright notice and this licence."
- **Plain-English note**: Bundle it with its notice and licence.

### MODIFY — CONDITIONS
- **Clause**: Permission & Conditions 2(b)
- **Quote**: "Modified Versions which are Substantially Changed must be renamed to avoid use of the name of the Original Version or similar names entirely."
- **Plain-English note**: Small changes add "derivative X" to the name (2(c)); big changes take a new name.

### REDISTRIBUTE — CONDITIONS
- **Clause**: Permission & Conditions 4
- **Quote**: "The Font Software, modified or unmodified, in part or in whole, must be distributed entirely under this licence, and must not be distributed under any other licence."
- **Plain-English note**: Share it under the UFL only.

### SELL — CONDITIONS

- **Quote**: "Propagation includes copying, distribution (with or without modification and with or without charging a redistribution fee), making available to the public"
